TALK ABOUT A BAD KISSER...
The doctor who treated her was quoted in the paper explaining what happened.
"The kiss reduced the pressure in the mouth, pulled the eardrum out and caused the breakdown of the ear."
...This is a true story.

Art Article of the Year:The Magic Easel

For years I have desired to give accolades to local publications for well written and informative articles. Now I have a forum and I will indulge myself. The Chicago Reader cover story of Thursday, October 23rd not just caught my eye, but entangled my thinking process for the next several months. The intriguing photo held me captive until I read and re-read the story. Not only was this piece thorough and well researched, but the back story had an immense amount of information on the topic as well, thanks to the competent writing of Damien James. He documents twin brothers Trevor and Ryan Oakes inventing a new way to draw. At first I thought this was a gimmick, but the story is so concise and the theories are so well explained, you begin to feel as if you are a part of something huge. And you are. Great chronicles are supposed to make you feel that way. I salute Mr. James for such a historically accurate and engaging piece of reporting.

I suggest everyone go read this article for yourself.

Artist of the Year: Saira Wasim

After giving it great thought I decided that Lambert Says Art should have a recognized artist of the year. Although many of the featured artists are deserving, one artist's technique, subject matter and final product moved me so much I chose to them high light. May I please have the honor of introducing the Lambert Says Art,  Artist of the Year.

Saira Wasim should be an international wonder of the art world, but this is Chicago folks...Well Lomard. That's even worse- It's the classic story, she went to every single gallery- not even a phone call back-
Finally a New York gallery called her...what is with the Chicago Art scene? It seems deaf, dumb and blind folded.
Her work is the stuff of pop art meets Annals of America volume 4. The fantasy work touches all the hot topics that keep people from going mainstream, but the images are detailed and vibrant enough to be in a nursery. I felt it was a travesty that so little attention was being payed to her work considering the situation in South Asia and the West.
I must admit I have a sensitivity to this type of style, but I feel it is prevalent in a world that has been over run by abstract images for the last several decades.

This young woman has taken on taboo subjects from Pakinstan and confronted them in a bold and sometimes satirical manner. She mixes her own pigments and  works from a cushion on the floor for about eight hours straight.  Her mother was also an artist and tried to steer her away from this career, but now her whole family supports her.
She graduated from arts college in 1999 and soon began international exhibits.  In 2003 she was included in a ground breaking show at the Whitney Museum for American Art.
Many galleries in had ignored her, but in 2006 Ameringiner and Yohe Fine Art gallery in Manhattan approached her.  Please look her up.
We expect great things from her hear at lambert.

This post was made possible by  the article Quiet Riot, by Victoria Lautman in the Septemberissue of  Chicago Magazine.

Local Heroes

So Alex Ross once again transcended from comic book art into powerful political art and made history. I knew he could do it. He might be one of the most prevalent and most talented artists alive. His classical style and attention to detail combined with his meticulous rendering in water color make him by far one of the most talented painters of all time. He is able to not only capture, but create any image. He has drafted fantasy and blended reality into one realm. Now his images are legend. It is only right that he portrays Obama, because Alex Ross also shares roots form Chicago. This man has been a hero of mine since 1994. It's only right he should hold the limelight being that i also have strong tis to the Windy City. I salute him and our new super president. All the best. More inside  with: Quishenta Jones

Presidential Debate #2 aka SNOOZE-fest 08

I couldn't have been the only one who felt this way during last nights debate.
McCain was running around the issues giving his stump speech (more than Obama did)
Obama showed how he can be too professorial and get boring, with his long articulate answers.
I actually fell asleep at the end. Is it November 4th yet???

The scene on Western and Augusta

These are images from Lotus Keep. The gallery of the Co-Op Image group. Not only do they support the Wall/Mural project, but they have recruited Pearl Dick, the glass diva of Wicker Park to instruct! Pearl Dick people... This is their 5th year and they are having a party. These guys have great events and the art aint bad either. I caught an all star Latino show and it was tight. Their events vary so much you would never know Mike Bangcroft is running them. He is way to quiet to brag anyway. You gotta catch at least one of their parties to know what I'm talking about.

Vicinity Pics: Wicker Park/Chicago

Shadi is a local icon. He opened one of my favorite restaraunts in Chicago; the Sultans Market.I I promoted this place back in the day at the MCA and several hot spots for free, because I truly believed in the food and the ambiance. It has evolved and transformed over the years, but the falafels are still the best I've ever tasted. The price can't be beat and the salad bar is very exotic. There are always people in there. It's a hot spot for health food. What has become more impressive is the decor. It is important to me to have great art in places I acquire food. I want that positive energy to be absorbed into my sustenance. Art is a nutrient for your soul. Take a look at an original Wicker Park treasure. If it wasn't for this place, I would have starved. I am serious. No joke!

Back On the Pommel Horse.

Put me in coach!!! I'm ready. It's been a little crazy lately. Favre is on the Jets. Mike Phelps is a fish. DMX can't seem to stay out of the Miami Dade County Correctional facilities. Scuba Timmy, Jones-Harrison-jumanji-Jenkins-Roscoe-Smith, and Maxdeci all moved up North. Supertoy went back to where it all started. Me... I've got funny story to tell.

My grandmother finally got her interview for her citizenship. In the interview she was asked "Who was the first President of the United States?" Let me remind you, my grandma doesn't speak a god forsaken lick of English and lived in New York for 11 years. She simply replies "George Washington Bridge!" That was Spictaculous.

Fit for a King

This month I am paying homage to one of the best artists in our era. Here at Lambert Says we salute the greats. Max King Cap should be considered an international treasure. If there were an art olympics he would take gold in three styles. Quishenta Joans gets inside the brilliant mind of Max King Cap. It has a ring to it if you say it often enough. Go to Lambert Says Art for more with the King and I. You can also visit MaxKingCap.com for more...

Le Coque

This is epic work by Eric Cassil. I forgot the dimensions, but it is at least 5x5 and a half feet. It's big! It was to big for my car, and for the camera.  This is her early work. It is very detailed and straight forward. Her work is very refined and meticulous. Each feather is precise. She toils over her work for months and months. There is no looseness and unfinished areas or short-cuts. You see less and less art work of this genre now-a-days. (I feel like an old goat saying this.)
The reason I am posting this is because there is no reason not to. I have decided to celebrate all art and the artists on Lambert Says. Not just some art. And not just the pretty artists; (even though Ms. Cassil is quite a looker) Many artists go unnoticed their whole lives. This is also one of the first art pieces I ever traded for and this is one of the first paintings I'd seen with this type of heavy white, base paint and printed writing with bold print. How can you forget art like this? You can't. For more of Erica's work move to Chicago, just kidding. Contact Quishenta Joans or look for her yourself.

They say we've got some contraption up in the outer spaces. They say they done sent it to Mars. I never thought I'd see the day we'd have a colored man runnin for president and color pictures from Mars. Really do look red don't it?

I kinda thought we'd have some hotels on the moon before we were fuckin around with Mars but I guess we can afford to do both.
